Bitmail

Privacy Policy

This policy explains what the Bitmail Android app and the bitmailapp.com website do with your data. The short version: the app has no ads, no tracking and no Bitmail account, and your mail travels directly between your phone and your own email provider.

Last updated: 21 August 2026

01Who we are

Bitmail is published by Kurdbits, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KVK) under number 96243554. For anything in this policy, including requests about your data, write to info@bitmailapp.com.

02The short version

  • There is no Bitmail account. Nothing is registered with us.
  • There are no ads, no analytics, no telemetry and no advertising identifier in the app.
  • Your email is fetched by your phone directly from your provider. It does not pass through a Bitmail server.
  • Your mail password is stored in the Android keystore on your device and never leaves it.
  • The app requests no storage permission; it only sees a file when you hand it one.

03Data processed on your device

To work as a mail client, Bitmail stores the following on your phone, in the app's own private storage: your account settings and server addresses, the messages and attachments it has synced, contact names and addresses drawn from that mail, and your app preferences such as theme and layout.

This data stays on the device. It is not uploaded to us, and it is removed when you remove the account or uninstall the app. Credentials are held separately in the Android keystore.

04Data we receive

Under normal use of the app, none. We operate no account system, no analytics and no crash-reporting service that collects your usage.

If you email us at info@bitmailapp.com, we receive your address and whatever you write, and we keep it for as long as needed to handle your request and to comply with Dutch record-keeping obligations.

If you ask to be told when the app launches, your address is used for that single message and then removed.

05Third parties

Your email provider processes your mail, as it already does. Bitmail connects to it on your behalf using the credentials you supplied.

If you choose Sign in with Google or Sign in with Microsoft, that sign-in happens with Google or Microsoft directly and is governed by their terms. Bitmail receives only the authorisation needed to access the mailbox you selected.

If you send a file as a link rather than an attachment, that file is uploaded to Bitmail's transfer service so the recipient can download it. It is stored only for as long as the link is valid and is deleted afterwards. Files sent as ordinary attachments are never uploaded to us.

When you open a message in the original-HTML view, or allow remote images, your device contacts the servers referenced by the sender. Remote images are blocked until you ask for them, precisely so that this does not happen without your say-so.

Once the app is distributed through Google Play, Google collects its own installation and device statistics as the app store. That processing is Google's, described in the Google Play terms, and it is not visible to us as individual user data.

07Your rights

Under the GDPR you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we hold about you, object to processing, or ask for a copy in portable form. Since we hold nothing beyond correspondence you started, such requests are usually short. Write to info@bitmailapp.com.

Data held only on your phone is under your control directly: remove an account inside the app, or uninstall it, and the local copy goes with it.

If you believe we have handled your data wrongly you may complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or to the supervisory authority in your own country.

08Children

Bitmail is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from them. As the app collects no personal data at all, this is a statement of intent rather than a filter.

09This website

bitmailapp.com serves static pages. It sets no cookies at all and does not build a profile of you. Your browser's language preference is read in your browser to send you to the right language version, and if you choose a language yourself it is remembered locally on your own device. Standard server logs, including IP addresses, may be kept briefly by our hosting provider for security and to keep the site running.

10Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with a new date at the top. Material changes affecting the app will also be noted in the app's release notes.
